Description

A design for a purple formal gown, most of which is described here: [link]

Most of this was designed on a half-hour train ride this morning. After I bought the fabric this afternoon, I made some alterations on the way home (with regards to fabric choice, I bought completely different fabrics to what I thought.)

I found out through research tonight that brushed back satin is actually used for making sleepwear...
Ah well, the colour I found matched my lace perfectly, and the fabric that I wanted only came in black, white or pink.

Here I have dubbed it "Remotely Gothic Dress Design". It's purple, and black, and has a corset with lace overlay...

Originally, it was going to have 2 layers of black overskirt, but when I went shopping for the fabric, I found a nice plum colour as well, so it now has 2 contrasting overskirts. Might put ribbon bows or hand beading at the top of each swag. (Thinks bows are way to cutesy now.)

As you can see in the top right corner, I was attempting to draft a corset pattern (ignore all the numbers around it...maths...)

There are faint dotted lines on the skirt part, these indicate where the hoops will go in the crinoline. Because of my height, I'll only need 8 hoops instead of 11.

And the arbitrary zig-zag at the top of the corset is supposed to represent an asymmetric piece of gathered tulle. I saw something similar on this site.

Will probably start on the hoopskirt tomorrow, more pictures to come soon as I make progress :)

Yes! Overskirts ftw! I already bought my fabric ages ago, just haven't really gotten around to touching it, yet. Was drawing up a couple of sketches for it yesterday, and bought stuff to make the hoop skirt, yesterday, too. I'm not going to bother trying to make a ridiculously O.T.T. hoop skirt... 11 hoops, my gawd! Even 8! I'm only making a three-hoop skirt, then having netting and crap to poof it out more. The bet is that I'll get sick of it 10 minutes into the night and take off the hoop skirt, leaving just the netting, anyway.

I've gotten... I don't know what it's called. Clegs recommended it to me. Some curtainy stuff - and it bends, so you can get through doorways, yet it still holds up okay. As for sitting... that's the point I figure I'll get sick of it and take it off. =P But what you've got sounds like it could be squeezed through a doorway, too. xD

Oh and of course, gloves! I bought a pair in Malaysia in December, but I've alreaday worn them a few times for a couple of other formalish events... and they're starting to fall apart. Might have to get another pair from Spotlight. Spotlight's only go up to the elbow though (I have a black pair) and the ones from Malaysia go over the elbow... You can borrow my black ones if you'd like? Black definitely won't be part of my outfit. xD Red and white, for me. (It's a Red Riding Hood-esque dress, 'cause I'm also using it for Amaranth where it's a fairytale theme - Zara wants me to make the hood, and everything... xD)

Oh man, I wish I knew how to use patterns... xD I'm going to have so much trouble next semseter drawing up patterns when I've never even used one, let alone made one! xD I tend to go for a "put it on the body, pin it, sew where you've pinned" approach, now made easier with my mannequin. =D
